Service is great, they are always checking on our table , also explaining each dish as they come. It was a great experience dining here. Very awesome decor inside too. My recommendation is to order the course menu. ”

“ So so worth it! We came here on a honeymoon dinner and it was a bit tricky to find parking. Also it's not in the touristy area so it was hard to find. However, once you're there, you're magically transported to an intimate place taking you on a high end Japanese yakitori experience. We went with the omakase menu and I highly recommend! Everything was presented beautifully and if you sit at the bar, you get a great view of all the food they cook. It's all fresh and authentic! The chef is also seen hard at work blowing the fumes and flames from the yakitori cooking station. Each plate was made with love, care and hard work, with every dish better than the one before it and everything syncs together to form a complete dinner meal. The mouth watering scallop with Uni were my favorite! The service was excellent too and I have been saying this is the most memorable meal on our trip! ”

“ One star off for no gizzard, heart, liver or neck. Overall it's a good Americanized yakitori joint. Lots of menu items to choose from. As I write this, I'm not so sure they use binchotan as well since I don't smell any of that in their meats. But otherwise every item executed perfectly. Nothing is dry or no taste. Wagyu is melt in your mouth a5 level. Pre fixe December menu is a great deal. Tsukune very moist which is exactly what every great yakitori place should have. Tip: they got that suntory draft beer which is ultra rare to see in us. This is the first time I've seen this outside of japan ”

“ Expensive yakitori place in Chinatown but worth it! I was glad I brought my daughter with me for her first yakitori experience.. We ordered various parts of chicken such as Kawa(chicken skin), Momo(thigh), Mune(breast), beef tongue, pork belly, octopus, karaage, and local corn karaage. Everything was so good! We had a very personable lady staff who helped with our questions. If you want a quality yakitori, this spot is for you! ”

“ Yakitori Hachibei has a new, refined menu. While you won't find a bunch of different cuts, they do offer the most common skewers and they do those skewers well. If it's your first time, or you want to get a good variety, their omakase is the way to go. Our Restaurant Week Pre Fixe had 12 courses starting with a crudo of ahi in cold ginger sauce. If you like the ginger scallion poke at the supermarket, you'll like this. The punchy ginger overpowered the mild ahi. Next was a flashed fried corn riblet dipped in tare. The corn was cooked until firm and dry, giving it a starchy chew. The vegetable course was grilled tender eggplant and shishito topped with bonito. Butabara pork belly was next. The pork was lean and topped with seasoned salt. Sukiyaki featured tender grilled beef wrapped around chrysanthemum and enoki and served with an egg yolk for dipping. Juicy chicken tsukune was brushed with tare and served with mustard. Lean chicken breast is dipped in shoyu wasabi. The soy was slightly sweet and the wasabi had a lovely floral note. The atsuage was firm fried tofu, grilled, the. topped with ginger and bonito. The tofu was dry and didn't taste like much on its own. Grilled Kauai shrimp was crispy enough to enjoy the head. It had a nice char and was simply seasoned with lemon and salt. Cucumber salad was a simple palate refresher served with the salty momoyaki and rice. This heavily seasoned chicken thigh was juicy and had a crispy skin. They ran out of the goma pudding, so our meal ended with chocolate ice cream. The courses came out at a good pace and overall I enjoyed the variety of the set. If it's been awhile since you've been to Hachibei, this is your sign to check them out again. ”

“ If you like yakitori this is the place for you. The food is quite pricey and I would expect to pay close to $100 per person if you have a big appetite. Somethings may not be worth the price but there was nothing that we had that didn't taste good. We tried a lot of the menu and I have to say everything is good with some things being exceptional. For me the tsukune is a barometer for how good a yakitori place is. When it's good it's one of my favourites and at times it can be really bad. If it comes as a circular meatball that looks like it came from IKEA cancel the rest of your order and eat somewhere else. The tsukune here is on point and I would recommend splurging for the egg yolk dipping sauce. The momoyaki was really the other stand out dish. The skin is extremely crispy and the chicken is juicy. We ended up ordering another one because we liked it so much. Other things to get: A5 waygu, chicken rice (both items), chicken skin, pork with shiso, pork with tomato, sesame pudding, eggplant, zucchini. ”

“ Woo! For Restaurant Week! We feasted here right in Chinatown! From beginning to end, we were treated to scrumptious skewers of pork belly, chicken breast, beef, chicken meatball, Hawaiian shrimp, local corn karaage and zucchini each cooked with care to tasty perfection, plus chef's crudo and a sesame pudding to rightfully cap our wonderful meal. I'm on a keto diet, and I felt like this meal was very keto-friendly -- yes! Our servers were thoughtful and timely as they explained each serving. We were full, satisfied and happy. Neither of us had been there before, so this was a lovely introduction and an enticing invitation to come back again! Thank you for participating in Restaurant Week! We will be back! ”

“ A dear friend introduced me to this eatery years ago. It was great then and it was equally great tonight. It is all about the smokey flavor as the Chef handles skewers like the perfect grill master. This isn't an easy task, especially when the restaurant is full, with many skewers to cook. Tonight our group of five came to support their Restaurant Week offering. At $49 each, that was reasonable for 12 delicious items! And boy was it filling! Our gracious Server started us with local corn karaage and the Chef's Crudo. Not what you expect at a yakitori place but I kind of liked the fresh poke with ginger and green onion sauce, it had a nice local flare. Next, the grilled eggplant and shishito pepper was just the right tenderness and lightly seasoned, another great "starter." Now it wouldn't be yakitori without all the grilled protein. The Restaurant Week pre fixe menu included pork belly, three versions of chicken, beef, and tofu. By far, my favorite was the sukiyaki with thin beef wrapped around a bundle of enoki mushrooms and served with a silky-smooth egg yolk for dipping, yum! Our generous Chef offered us jumbo shrimp from Kaua'i. Everyone commented about the perfect smokey flavor and crisp shell. Lucky us! At the end of our pre fixe, it was supposed to be goma pudding but they sold out. In its place, we were served chocolate ice cream, which is still delightful for this chocolate lover. Thank you Yakitori Hachibei for a delicious meal and such gracious customer service. I am excited to travel to Tokyo and find their flagship location! ”

“ Came here few months ago before watching a comedy show in the Hawaii theatre. It's a good option if you're in downtown / Chinatown already. Foods overall decent but the prices weren't, and I don't think the types of the food justified the prices. I get it if you charge more for seafood, but if it's just chicken, really? I've had way better skewers elsewhere for a much more reasonable price. Also the stuff they serve could easily be cooked at home - grilled scallops, grilled chicken wings, beef wrapped shungiku (crown daisy), etc. Some of the items we tried as a group was eggplant, grilled corn, chicken wings, chicken heart, uni shooter, chicken meat and many more. Overall the taste and quality was good. I enjoyed the eggplant and beef tongue the most! If you're in Chinatown and are craving some izakaya food, not a bad place to stop by but I wouldn't go out of my way to come here. There are some better places out there. Service was attentive and polite. I most enjoyed the atmosphere of the restaurant. It's not a big place but it didn't feel cramped. It's lively without being too loud. ”
